Massage Therapy

Massage therapy in Lake Forest & Highland Park

Our licensed massage therapists provide therapeutic massage to reduce pain, improve circulation around injuries and restore function. With massage therapy, we can relieve pain, rehabilitate sports injuries, reduce stress, increase relaxation, address anxiety and depression and aid general wellness. You should know that there are about 80 different types or styles of massage with a wide variety of pressures, movements and techniques. Styles include gentle Swedish massage, deep-tissue massage, sports massage and Shiatsu massage.

Swedish massage involves long, soft, kneading strokes as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes on topmost layers of muscles. We combine this with movement of joints. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish massage can be relaxing and energizing, and it may help after you’ve been injured.

Deep-tissue massage is best for painful, stiff “trouble spots” on your body. We use slow, deliberate strokes that focus pressure on muscles, tendons or other tissues deep under your skin. Though less rhythmic than other types of massage, deep-tissue massage may relieve chronic patterns of tension and help with muscular injuries such as back sprains.

Sports massage uses various approaches to assist athletes in training before, during or after competition. We also use it to increase flexibility and help prevent injuries. It’s also helpful for muscle strains, facilitating improved healing after a sports injury.

Shiatsu massage is a Japanese technique involving finger pressure. The therapist applies varied, rhythmic pressure to certain precise points on the body. Called acupressure points, these are believed to be important for flow of the body’s vital energy, which is called chi. Shiatsu massage can help relieve blockages at acupressure points.

Therapeutic massage involves pressing, rubbing or manipulating muscles and other soft tissues with hands and fingers. Sometimes we even use our forearms, elbows or feet. A massage therapist may use long, smooth strokes or short, percussive strokes as well as oils and lotions. Therapeutic massage can last from five minutes to two hours.
